KRISTU JYOTI HOSPITAL

Sisters of Pushparam Province had begun their service in Samba from 1994. The apostolates the sisters were entrusted with was mainly education, health and social welfare.Being an undeveloped area, the medical facilities available were very poor at Samba. To take care of the health needs, Kristu Jyoti approached the Karal Kubal Stefting (K.K.S.), a German agency with a project proposal called Mobile Health and HygieneProject and it was sanctioned in 1996. Since the needs of the people were well assessed , the 2nd phase of the project also was sanctioned by the K.K.S.Manos Unidas, a Spain based agency, helped the Society with a fund for the Hospital building.

During the time of Mother Provincial, Sr.Ricci, Bishop Peter Celestine Bishop of Jammu – Srinagar laid the foundation for the hospital on 8th Sep. 1999 and the construction was completed on 26th March 2001. Bishop Peter Celestine did the blessing of the hospital. Jenab Mian Altaf the Health Minister, J&K State, inaugurated it. The J&K Govt. and people take keen interest in the functioning of this institution.The hospital is equipped with 20 beds, an operation theatre, delivery facilities, Photo therapy unit, X-Ray, Ultra Sound, Lab and Pharmacy. At present the hospital is run with two full time doctors RMO-MBBS, M.D. Gynecologist, Pediatrician and visiting doctors – MD Physician, Anesthetist, Sonologist. The hospital is registered with J&K Govt. under private Nursing Home Act.Kristu Jyoti hospital has become a source of comfort and consolation to the people through the dedicated and selfless service of the sisters. It is a blessing for the people not only to get the physical healing but also to get mental, psychological and spiritual nourishment.
