The lamp of Christ was lit in Samba at the invitation of the then Bishop of Jammu Srinagar His Excellency Bishop Hippolitus Kunnugal Ofm. Cap. Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society is a voluntary non-profitable, Social and Development Organization for the marginalized, initiated and animated by the sisters of the Congregation of Mother of Carmel, Pushparam Province Dehradun. Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society is registered under the society registration Act VI of 1998 (1941 A.D.) Regd.No.2486-S. Sr. Pushpa, a trained General Nurse cum Public Health Nurse was appointed to take up the health care and social work at Samba in 1995. Continues effort that she could find out the felt needs of the people and started a cutting & tailoring centre with the support of Kalamkari women’sPolyletchnic Jammu. The other challenge of the villagers was poor health of women and children in the remote areas. This was solved by the Mobile Health and Hygiene Project funded by KKS, Germany for two year and the establishment of a 20 bedded hospital “ Kristu Jyoti Hospital, Samba” with the support of Mano Unidas and Pushparam Province . Many more sisters were sent by the province for this noble cause. Since its inception the organization is providing their services in the area of health, literacy and Income Generation and recharging the Natural Resources, Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups and Farmers club. One of the main thrust of the Society has become skill up gradation of the rural youth of Samba. Secondary level of education and Vocational training centres is accredited to National Institute of Open Schooling, Noida(Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India). The Society established a motor Driving School under Motor Vehicle Department of J&K . Industrial training centre for MES courses under Ministry of labour and employment.
